Modular benches & Corten tree grates
226 Tucker Rd, McKinnon VIC 3204
PROJECT INFO
At McKinnon Reserve, we delivered a series of custom modular benches with integrated corten steel tree grates. A key challenge was ensuring the modular benches had minimal visible fixings, utlising an end panel for access to bolt down locations.
PRODUCT SPECS
To prevent the oxidised steel from staining the surrounding surfaces we opted for powder coating the end panels in Interpon Sable Corten. Providing a corten look which matched the tree grates. The benches were constructed using Spotted Gum hardwood battens, these battens were treated with a Quantum Gold oil , enhancing their natural texture while providing long-term colour retention. Corten steel was used for the custom tree grates, chosen for its distinctive rust-like appearance that naturally develops over time, contributing both visual appeal and resilience to the elements. The combination of warm timber and industrial corten steel created a harmonious contrast, blending into the landscape while offering a robust solution for public use.
